Hyperthermia in tiger (Panthera tigris)- A case report

Abstract
The author reports a case of heat stroke in a captive tiger (Panthera tigris) in Van Vihar National
Park, Bhopal. The environment temperature was persistently high during the period. The postmortem
investigation revealed adherence of skin with muscles, dark discoloration of the muscles, congestion and
focal areas of hemorrhages on lung parenchyma, in tracheal mucosa, cerebellums and prescapular lymph
node. The are no reports of lesions of vital organs of wild cats in hyperthermia. Due to rapid change in
environmental temperature, the wild felids such as tigers of young or old age may succumb suddenly.

Key words: Tiger and hyperthermia.
